purity Mar 17, 2006, 07:56 AM hi guys
im new to this site and looking for some help.
im 25 years old and in the past year i have noticed the skin around my eyes get thinner and now you can all the blue veins around my eyes. does anyone else have this problem? can anyone recommend any products to use? its so embarrasiing when people say to me "how comes i can see your veins..
please help at a lost as to what to do
PrettyLady Mar 22, 2006, 01:23 AM Purity, the skin under the eye is very thin. When blood passes through the large veins close to the surface of the skin it can produce a bluish tint. These veins are, however, completely normal. Using creams will improve the appearance of it, but will not get rid of the veins. Only laser treatments can eliminate veins around the eyes. You may want to use a concealer that contain strong pigments to camouflage the unsightly veins.
purity Mar 22, 2006, 08:35 AM hi
thanks for the advice. do you know what kind of laser treatments are availble to treat veins.
PrettyLady Mar 24, 2006, 12:09 AM Your welcome, sweetie. Laser treatments are mostly used for treating veins on the face. Laser surgery works by sending very strong bursts of light onto the vein that makes the vein slowly fade and disappear. There are several types of lasers that can be used to treat varicose veins and spider veins on the legs and face. Dermatologists who have lasers would be able to help you. You should call your dermatologist and ask if they can get rid of the veins around your eyes.

I can relate.I have the same problem.I want those veins gone too, I heard about laser treatment but afraid of how much it would cost me. At least I want to know first from people who have undergone laser procedure so I wouldn't be astounded when a dermatologist quotes me.There is no commercially available product that works, trust me because I tried almost every thing there is only laser treatment will help at least according to the dermatologists. Just keep me informed.
ebblondie88 Jul 15, 2009, 11:38 AM Okay I don't know how willing you are to remove your veins but I went to Dr. Berman Berman Skin Institute (http://www.bermanmd.com/home.asp) here in Palo Alto CA, good thing I live in the area, most people fly from all over the world to have him remove their ugly veins anyways the procedure is called cool gel laser treatment, something like that yeah and it's really expensive but totally worth it:) It's 850 dollars, WOW but worth it! If your flying from out of state I would HIGHLY recommend staying for a few days because most likely he will have you come back for a followup treatment---if the veins aren't THAT noticable, for no additional cost, he's a really nice guy and knows what he's doing. He removed my veins almost completely, and he still wants me to come back, I'm content with my results but I have a teeny weeny vein and a few broken cappilaries that you can hardly see but hey I might as well get my moneys worth and have him eradicate it all you know? I also a few veins on my temples I'll have him laser off too. I really hope this helps and that you go and see him you will be so happy you did and your confidence will soar! I never have to wear makeup anymore I love it:)
ebblondie88 Jul 15, 2009, 11:40 AM oh yeah and no product will help it will only irritate the thin skin, thus making your veins even more noticable, it happened to me:( fish oil which contains fatty amino acids will thicken the skin over time but not enough to hide the veins.
LittleLaydee Aug 9, 2009, 06:45 AM I have been following these threads for months, after years of having idiots make me feel 2ft tall because i looked like id been punched in the face coz of these veins.
I was all set to go to the berman institute in palo alto to have the coolglide laser. Until i found The Private Clinic, Harley Street, London.
So i booked my consulation and they said i needed to see their specialist which cost me £100, I went and saw him later on the same day and he assessed my condition and was extremely adament he could help me!!...He even did the treatment on the same day.
I spent £350 all in all and i couldnt recommend Dr.Gupta enough this guy is truly AMAZING. I have had the treatment done yesterday and there is no signs of these veins today, my mum watched me have the Alterna Laser treatment done and she said as soon as the laser hit them the veins disappeared, It hurts like hell, but the results are truly amazing, im swollen and alittle bit bruised today but its totally worth it, everyone is amazed at how good it looks.
If you dont want these unsightly veins id suggest the trip to London, Creams and concealers dont work your wasting your money, ive tried everything possible, over the counter products, concealers, camoflague makeup etc and nothing helped. I STRONGLY recommend the Alterna laser.
Yes there is a possibility they could come back, but i was willing to take the risk..and what the hell if they come back il go straight back to Dr.Gupta and be zapped again.
I cannot stop looking in the mirror, i love the results!!!
I hope this helps people to make the decision to go ahead and have it done!!!

Hi Litteladydee, How old is Dr. Gupta and did he seem to be experienced with removing veins under the eyes? I“m from Germany and thought to fly out to California to see Dr. Berman but London is much closer so if Dr. Gupta can be highly recommended I would prefer to set an appointment with him instead.
Did Dr. Gupta remove veins under your both eyes and are the veins still gone? Are you still happy with the result?
Thanks a lot in advance for your update. Charlize
abr_bly Aug 23, 2009, 02:27 PM Hi,
I've normally replied to a similar thread about these blue veins in this forum but having read little laydee's I thought I'd add to it.
I also have suffered with seriously prominent veins under my eye and down my temple. I too had come across the berman institute and was willing to go there when I came across the private clinic who also provided the coolglide laser treatement.
I was originally treated by Dr Gupta in may of this year, and what a lovely man he is, made the whole process less daunting.
Had my under eye one intially treated and like little laydee it was as gud as gone straight after, but few days later it seemed just as prominent as it always did. I read posts from others who'd had the same treatment but further along and they too had this effect but said to hang in as over the course of some weeks they would break down and disappear.
The vein under my eye appears to have partially disappeared but some of it is still there but as though it has shrunk to the size of a thread vein. It's not prominent but cos I'm always checking to see if its returning I notice it more.
I have been back for a second treatment (july) on one of my temple veins, which was big and seriously prominent, that was slightly more painful but though I can see it a month on it is much fainter.
As Dr Gupta says I've got to give my body time to break down the vein. I'm hoping it's not gonna come back with a vengeance.
Unfortunately I do have temple veins on the other side, which had recently shown up though way before any treatment and I'm thinking of going back and having them all treated at the same time.
Little laydee let us know how your veins respond as the weeks go by...
charlize242 Sep 26, 2009, 03:38 AM Little Lady / abr_bly - Since many weeks have passed now could you please give us an update? Are you still happy with the result?
Also, has anyone heard about the Mydon Laser? I had an appointment this week with an experienced dermatologist and he is quite sure that he can get rid of the ugly blue veins under my eyes with using the Mydon Laser. He also said that it needs several treatments though since the vein are under the eyes and he therefore prefers to treat them with a lot of caution starting with rather light bursts of light (low frequency) onto the veins and with enhancing the bursts of light with every other treatment only if necessary.
Would be great if I could get some opinion on this. Many Thanks!
MAHARANI Sep 28, 2009, 03:10 PM Just curious to ask those who have had the laser treatment, after how long are you allowed to wear make up. I ask because in addition to the veins I have dark circles and I have to wear eye make up, otherwise I feel I look like a zombie !!
Also want to know if this treatment can be carried out on black skin.
abr_bly Sep 29, 2009, 12:11 PM Hi charlize242,
Honestly speaking I've recently noticed the vein under my eye appear visible. Following the treatment I would say 90% of the vein had disappeared but of late I can see more of of the vein. My husband points out that it is only thread like which compared to what it was like before is still an improvement.
I have photos of it before and I need to look at them to remind myself how bad it was, even so I was devasted when I could see it reappearing.
The second vein I had treated was a temple vein and that was the most visible and largest one. That is very faint now and I'm not too fussed about it.
I had really hoped that would have been the end of my vein troubles but I guess that was too much to hope for.
I can only assume that the vein hasn't completely been zapped because the 'strength'of the laser used under my eye wasn't as much as the temple vein. Mayb he was being careful and wanted to go at slowly.
Haven't lived without the vein without for some months I hate seein it again, even if faintly so I'm gonna return and tell him I want it gone good and proper, because honestly I can't afford continued treatments.
Also dependent on the type and size of the vein and 'strength' of laser used is gonna effect the end result. Fingers crossed for the last time, my last appointment will be on the 10th of this month!!!
x
abr_bly Sep 29, 2009, 12:18 PM maharani,
I also have dark circles, which I think are a result of my veins and I used make up relatively soon after.
There was some residual swelling but no one could tell the difference, not even me till after it had gone down!
The coolglide can be used on any skin tone, I'm of asian background and olive toned, but yes it can be used on darker skin tones.
MAHARANI Sep 30, 2009, 03:26 PM Thanks for the response. So do you think your dark circles have improved since you had the treatment, then ?
abr_bly Oct 1, 2009, 07:50 AM Hi Maharani,
where the dark circles are concerned I'd say only slightly improved. My dark circles are more to the fact I have little fat under my eyes and so I guess it shows up my veins. I have to say after my first treatment for my veins my under eye area was only slightly swollen and that was the only time i was free of those horrible dark circles.
But once the sweilling came down they were back. If there was a solution to the darkc circles id jump a it. But where veins are the problem I'm still happy with the effect of the coolglide laser treatment.
Hope this helps. x
MAHARANI Oct 2, 2009, 05:43 AM abr_bly,
Same problem with me. Vey thin skin especially around the eye area. And I hate the way it looks, hence make up every day. It is only very occasionally that I wake up and think it doesn't look too bad.
Well if you find a solution, please let me know. I know that there has been a suggestion about injecting fillers/collagen into the area, but when I went for a consultation at a clinic in London, I was told that the eye area cannot have this procedure. Don't kow if anyone has had this done anywhere else.

jennifix Oct 12, 2009, 02:34 AM i have lots of dark blue veins under my eyes that are all interlacing and obvious. I have just had a consultation with Dr Newman Harley Street in London. He is going to treat mine. It is not cheap though... i've saved for 2 years. £100 for consultation and £399 for the treatment :( . I am 23 and they really depress me and i thought it was time to get them fixed. He said if they don't go away on the first treatment then he will do the second for free. I had to go for Veinwave treatment as i have a pigment disorder and lasers can cause pigment colouration and scarring as does scelopathey (?) and it would be more likely on me. I read bad reviews for local veinwaves but only great ones for dr newman (who invented it) doing it. So i'm taking the plunge. I will let everyone know if it works, though i've got a month until my treatment.
Anyone else used veinwave?

Hi Jennifix,
I read alot about veinwave before I had my coolglide laser treatment for my veins but for mine they weren't suitable.I guess it depends on the type of veins that need treating as to which is going to be suitable.
My veins were quite big veins, nothing like the little thread veins that I think veinwave is best at treating. Mine were obvious blue reticular veins and in my research the only laser I cam across that had been used to treat these kind of veins was the Nd:Yag laser (coolglide laser).
I went to have some of my other veins treated this weekend. The first vein I had treated under my eye was a good few mm thick but now on a bad day its equivalent to a thread vein. I had gone back to treat this one too. But Dr Gupta explained that the laser works best when there is plenty of blood to react with and in this vein there was very little blood. He told me to wait some months and if it returned to treat it then. Basically it would be a waste of my money to do it!!
I guess this is the reason the veins on my temple worked best because they were the most prominent veins and they are gone especially ones I got treated over the weekend. There's some residual swelling but nothin major.
He again did explain that if the pressure behind the vein is high then the vein could re-open and the veins return but i'm hoping they won't.
Dr Gupta was really nice and even tried to persuade me to not have it done as he felt I didn't need it but as I have issues with these veins I didn't want to wait so had them done.
He's told me he doesn't wanna see me again until some time next year, that's if i need to go back! LOL!
I hope the veinwave treatment works for you and keep us updated, my skin around my eyes if fine so I do have some tiny thread veins and maybe veinwave one day might be something that'll help there.
P.S. the treatment I had this weekend hurt. Normally it was uncomforatble but i think because it was near my hairline the hair must have absorbed some of the heat, anyways I beared it with only a few tears in my eyes...lol....well worth it though!!!
Also you quoted £399 for your treatment, how long is that for?
:)
jennifix Oct 12, 2009, 06:30 AM its 30 minutes... i've heard he tends not to go over 15 but i am going to make sure i get my moneys worth with the full 30mins

Hi,
Just wondering if you've had your veinwave treatment yet? if so how was it?
Thanks

Fingers crossed for you, hope it goes well.
can I ask, are your problem veins like thread veins or the more larger blue veins?
jennifix Nov 2, 2009, 08:36 AM well they havn't been too clear with me on this. They look like veins because they are blue and not red or purple, but they are bigger than thread veins, but smaller than some veins. i'd say they are as thick as the ones on my wrist when they look normal and aren't bulging. But some people in forums have told me you can't fix big veins with veinwave so i'll ask at my appointment if i remember (as the nerves will be going)

Sound similar to mine which definitely aren't thread veins. I remember emailing some clinic which did the veinwave treatment about if they could treat them and I got the impression no. But as you've had a consultation they must be able to do them. Really hope it works for you.
:)
jennifix Nov 2, 2009, 08:43 AM well i had one place doing veinwave that told me no, and i was devistated, and then i went to see dr newman (the founder) and he said yes. But as i said, i still don't know what type of vein they are so will ask. But it cost me £250 to find out if he could do mine and i am on minimum wage, so it's a difficult decision. But i asked the woman at his reception tons of questions and she was great, and even remembered me when i went in 4 months later
jennifix Nov 2, 2009, 08:46 AM oh he did say my ones would be tricky under the eye as they are stubborn and said i'd need 3 treatments.... to which i said i could afford one (and thats only because i have been living off cupa-soups to be able to afford that one). to which he said if they didn't go away we could do one follow up for free . which was great. but he said you can't do many treatments or you get scarring
abr_bly Nov 2, 2009, 08:53 AM Wish these treatments weren't so expensive too!
Well I will look forward to hearing about your feedback once you've had the treatment.
jennifix Nov 11, 2009, 01:03 AM I had veinwave on my veins under my eyes yesterday by Dr Newman in Harley street. I am a little swollen and scabby at the moment..... but i can already see the improvement... i will have to wait a week until i can tell you for sure though and it did cost too much for the time he did (think it was less than 5minutes so was upset about that and he is quite grumpy) HOWEVER he said they could come back as they aren't thread veins. They have emptied out the blood and sealed them, but they could reform, in which case he will re-do them in 4 months for free (however, if they come back after that then :( )but my fingers are crossed. I will keep updating on the progress. Oh and it hurt.
jennifix Nov 11, 2009, 01:08 AM hang on from ooking your appointment... i have a bad feeling that under the scab they are still there... will see if in a month they havn't gone. :(
afsijoon Nov 12, 2009, 08:57 PM did they treat your veins in one session or several sessions
i tried 2 centers--one celibre--wasnt that great==good for behind leg veins--under eyes didnt do anything--the lady said you have to come back at least 3 times--3X$300+=900 big sums--did try berman-850 and with hotel and stuff almost $1000.00 -veins are better -he didnt remove smalll ones only big blue--i think i have to do after tx --or wait at least a while--they were not that clear about how many visits needed--anyone knows anything about that i appreciate it--

jennifix Nov 13, 2009, 01:29 AM im unsure on veinwave yet... i will reply on progress in a month ... as the veins he treated have gone... but others look like they are coming up that weren't there before. so if the old ones he treated come back too then i will look awful. I've just turned 23 and will be devastated if this happens. I have to try keep calm at the moment though and give it time to settle so i can see clearly what will happen. will keep posting on this so don't book any appointments yet
