I have a goodman a/c unit and it is about 12-13years old I think it is a 4 ton unit. Lately the compressor has been locking up and I have to put water on it to get it unstuck. repairman is trying to sell me a whole new unit and I need some ideas Thanks

Sounds like its over heating if your having to cool it off with water. over heating problems= dirty condenser coil, over or under charged, faulty motor, bad run capacitor for fan motor or compressor, restriction at refrigerant metering device and the list keeps going and going. Any or all will make a compressor over heat.
