"F" disk used to be for the format disk command. It is no longer used by Windows.

Fdisk is a (DOS) command that starts the formatting of a drive.
The most common use of Fdisk is to partition a new hard drive. After partitioning you still have to format each individual partition before you can use it.
See partitioning as cutting up a hard drive into two or more sections, and formatting as making groves as in old 78 - 45 - 33 records.
If you do not know how to do either one, better ask some specialist to give you a practical training first BEFORE you use that command on your own computer.

To do an Fdisk command you have to go to DOS, type on the prompt "fdisk" , and follow the instructions. But be careful because once started the command can not be reversed and all data in the activated part of your hard drive is lost forever.
