My AC Unit will not cut on. I noticed it making a loud noise and send my husband outside to check it. The brackets that hold the motor (im guessing that what it was) were broken and the motor was still running but knocking loudly. So my husband welded the brackets back and it started back up but was still loud. Then it just stopped working. What is this part called and how much does it cost to replace. I believe we have an american standard unit. Thanks!

Sounds like the fan blade was damaged and the motor could be damaged also. I would probably get the motor and new capacitor, fan blade and mounting bracket. You will find the parts at a local American standard dealer. Look in the yellow pages or look up on Google.
