There's a heck of a lot more steps than 10.

Whatever your book is referring to is something made up by the author. There are no "official 10 steps" in accounting. I don't even know what context this is in. Authors can divide up steps any way they like, or lump them together however they want. You're going to have to refer to your book for this one.
