I am a 53 year old female - my doctor said I have a breast infection - don't know why!

After 4 days the antibiotics have helped reduce the swelling and pain.

Regardless of how the antibiotics affect me should I still get a biopsy?

Can IBC actually cause an infection?

Thank you so much in adanvce!

Robin

I guess your doctor did not explain fully about breast infection. Did he actually say you have Inflammatory Breast Cancer, because that is what IBC is. One of the most aggressive forms of breast cancer. I would say, and this is not a diagnosis, that an infection would be part of the inflammatory breast cancer because in order for it to be inflammatory, it would have to be an infection. I would go back to your doctor and ask for an informed diagnosis, and a biopsy, if he hasnt suggested one in the very near future.

The diagnosis my doctor made was a breast infection and she put me on antibiotics. She told me that if I did not get better in 3 days to call her back. She did not mention IBC. Of course I read about my symptoms and I know that IBC should not respond to antibiotics. I just want to be sure I pursue this as I should and not just take one doctor's opinion.

thanks,

Robin
