I have been told that I need a kickstart on my A/C outside condensor unit. Is it really necessary as it seems they told me that before, but that it was more of a plus for the unit. What is it and what does it cost to install?

It helps the outside unit start up. It is a simple device that gives the compressor a extra kick to get it going right away instead of allowing the compressor to stay on the start windings to long. Staying on the start windings to long is bad for the unit. They are also used for areas that have low voltage and power outages from time to time.

You will have to call around in your area for cost since labor rates and parts cost differ from state to state.
