how do i shut off water to a radiator?

If this is a steam radiator, you may be able to shut the single angle valve at the side...but most steam angle valves don't work (worth a shot though).

If this is a forced hot water radiator, then you may be able to stop hot water from flowing through the radiator by shutting the angle valve at the side of the radiator...BUT that will not allow you to remove the radiator or anything like that!!.

If want to remove this radiator to do work on floors or something like that, you will need to drain the entire heat zone that radiator is on.....which means draining ALL radiators on that zone!!

Here, should just need to isolate the zone....or may be the entire system, shut water off to boiler, and then drain system (open all vents on radiators)...then once drained you can remove radiator.

Then to refill, install radiator, ...then FIRST-->>SHUT ALL VENTS YOU OPENED, then fill system and purge air from radiators via these vents...test for leaks at every step of the way...usually best to have someone watch the radiator you worked on.

There is also a fast fill feature on most boiler fill valves (will speed filling boiler)..let us know if need more info. on that...;)
