I have dark brown hair and would like to put some gold to copper highlights but my hair always turns orange. Someone said I should mix a toner with my store-bought hair color and someone else told me to mix it with my shampoo to prevent this. What is the correct way to use toners to prevent the brassy orange I experience when coloring?
