My periods have become irregular in the last six or seven months. They are on no set “schedule” and are never the same length- sometimes they will last for three days, sometime for almost two weeks. Oftentimes there is a brownish discharge for a few days after the blood stops. Also, there are times when my period seems to be stopping but then it starts to get heavy again. Just this month I had my period for 6 days. It stopped for about two days, and then I started getting a brownish discharge for about four days. After that the bleeding got heavier, however, it had no odor, which I thought was strange. I'm an athlete, and I've heard that regular intense workouts and practices can make menstrual cycles irregular. Also, I am on an acne medication (a pill), and I don't know if that would affect my irregular periods. I know that stress and an irregular diet can affect the menstrual cycle, but I know that this isn't it. I am sexually active, and I do use protection (not the pill, though) and am not pregnant, so that definitely is not the problem. Any guesses on what’s up?

some women are just irregular. if having an irregular cycle is bothering you (it drove me crazy) you might consider talking to your dr about trying bc.
