have a 1982 rooftop carrier bdp type forced air furnace. It has a honeywell s8610f-1008 control module. spark igniter is constantly on. suddenly furnance no longer fires up. no gas is coming thru a honeywell vr8204A gas valve. disconnected entire honeywell wheel type thermostat. cooling fan & a/c works fine on it. won't turn on furnance. so disconnected entire thermostat. igniter remains on, won't go off until 40Amp circuit breaker is turned off. With thermostat totally disconnected igniter remains on so unplugged spark igniter wire contact, but control model keeps ticking away and emitting spark & power from and to male connector contact. finally had to shut gas off on pipe inline valve and disconnect 24V power connector. is value plugged? how to clean? or need to replace? should igniter be continuously constantly on?? without thermostat even connected?? wiring looks good, no shorts, or grounding outs observable. Is other gadget causing this or is module bad? how to test module and valve??:confused: :confused: :confused:

It is a good possibility the pilot orifice is plugged up or restricted preventing pilot ignition hence causing the constant call for spark ignition to lite off the pilot which will never happen if it is plugged with debris.

Now since you could not get the spark ignition to stop when you turned off the thermostat I would look for shorted control circuit wires (low voltage from the thermostat into the unit or the feed wires from the control box)

You can also check the gas valve to see if it is allowing pilot gas to pass thru on a call for heat. Also check for good grounds along all the spark igniton areas.

Problem areas with this Honeywell system are controler and also the valve with the controler box failing most of the time.

To bad but a Q tip will not work in this case. You need something very small to ream out the little pilot hole being careful not to enlarge it.
