Hi,

I got married last year in October. I understand, that I can file taxes jointly with my husband although I have a few questions on the same.

1. Since my husband is a student on F1 visa he gets some specific standard deductions because of being an Indian. Also the tax rates are lower for a student. Therefore if we file it jointly, would he still get the extra exemption because he an Indian student in the US and lower student tax rate?

2. I was for less than 183 days last year in the US. Would I be classified as Non resident alien or is there a test i can undertake to determine the same?

Thanks

Neither of you is a resident at the end of the year and thus you cannot file jointly.
