I am currently a full-time Florida resident and am considering buying a home for 4 month use in NJ. I am retired so there is no reportable earnings. Will I be required to pay any NJ state income taxes for the 4 months of my temporary living? Florida has no state income tax and requires no forms to be completed as a background reference point.

Thanks for any information before we make any investment!

No - as long as you are a FL resident and have no NJ source of income (such as a part-time job) you do not need to file NJ income tax. Be sure that you can document that you spend at least 184 days/year in FL - by spending more than 1/2 year there you are clearly not an NJ resident. While it's not required, it would be prudent to continue to use FL as your mailing address for federal tax purposes and as the address for your financial dealings(SS, pension, IRA, etc), and do not get a NJ driver's license. Also, be aware that as a non-resident you will not be eligible for the NJ homeowner's tax rebate.
