Hi,

I (H1, have SSN) came to US on june 2007 with my wife (H4).
I am staying in texas from june 2007 till today.
My wife doesnt have a ITIN and she is a house wife (does not work).

Now i need to file my federal tax for the year 2007.

Do i need to have ITIN for my wife before i can file my federal tax jointly with her?
Can i file a federal tax without ITIN?

Thanks in advance.

You can file your ITIN request (w-7) with your tax return. Also, note that you have a dual status situation, or you can elect to file as residents for the full year but include your worldwide income and take a foreign tax credit.
