I have an older GM, Delco Heat furnace. Not sure what the model is, or how old it is. The heat turns on, but the fan won't. I had my father look at it last month, when he came into town. He checked the circuit breakers, wirings, and switchboard, and thermostat. He determined that it was the motor, so we cleaned it up a bit, then re-installed it. It was working until recently. Today with help, I took out the motor, took it apart, cleaned it, but it still won't start.

Please help. I have kids and am currently using a water furnace for now, but it's cold.:confused:

Replace the motor they do not last forever. When it was removed the first time that should have been a signal to buy a motor. They should be available locally. Sorry but I have no other advice.

I was looking online as where to purchase a new motor, but I can't seem to find one in the same brand. Does it matter? I can't make out the model, except for 5048?85, 1/4 HP 115V60 CY?, and 37 AMP 725RPM. Should I just take it out and take it to any furnace store. I looked into Home Depot, but I don't think they carry them. Any advice on where to go. I am handymanless. :p

Will the motor run if you turn the fan switch to on at the thermostat? It may be a bad fan limit control going bad and not the motor. 725 rpm with 37amp do you think it maybe 825 rpm with 3.7 amps.

If you are close to a electric motor repair shop they can look at the motor and find a replacement out of there inventory. With all the problems you have had with the motor it will be nice for you to have a new one.
They could probably rebuild the old one but the turn around time will leave you without a motor for a few days.

Thanks for your reply T-Top. I turned the switch to on, but only the heater comes on. I was told by another peson that the motor needed cleaning, so that's what I attempted to do, but nothing...I'm not sure what the size of the motor is, because there are scratches so I can't quite get a clear reading and I am clueless about what it may be. I haven't attempted to clean the fan yet and it is dusty. Maybe I should try this as well?

If you have a heat and cool system on the thermostat you will have a switch for heat-off-cool and a separate switch for the blower auto-on If the blower will not run in the on position good chance of a bad motor, then we need to find out if you have a 1075 rpm motor or 825, each one is a common motor.

:rolleyes: Oh, I see what you mean. Thanks for the clarification. No, the motor still will not run, on the auto-on position. HVAC1000 may be right that I need a new motor.:(

Great news guys! I was able to locate a company and did buy a new motor for $100. I was told the old one I had was ancient. :D They were very helpful and made it simple to install the new one. I can hear the heat going thru the house and it is a wonderful feeling.
