My husband's company moved their offices to Iowa in mid 2007. Do we file in Iowa as joint as we do on our federal return or does he file as an individual? We live in Wisconsin and need to do taxes for there as well. I'm just confused on this situation.

Where does your husband work? If he lives and works in WI, then you file WI taxes only. However, if he is commuting to IA and that's where his office is, he will have to file a non-resident Iowa income tax as well as WI resident income tax - if this is the case WI gives him a credit for any taxes paid to Iowa, so you don'tget double taxed. Finally, take a look at his W2 and see whether his company withheld tax only for WI , or IA, or both.

He actually works in Iowa right now, but does construction all over the tri state area. His company's offices are in Iowa though. His W2 shows taxes for both states. My question still is do we file taxes in Iowa just for him as an individual or married joint as on federal? And what about next year when his income will most likely be all Iowa?

In BOTH state returns, he files jointly if he filed jointly on gthe federal tax return.

You MAY want to get professional tax help to properly compute the tax credits for the taxes paid to Wisconsin.
