Hi,

I am in USA for the full tax year 2007. I went to India in December 2007 and I got married in January 2008. Right now My wife is in India and She will come here(USA) in another 3 months.

Can i file is as Married Filing Jointly?

What will be the status of my tax return?? (In my W2 form it is 'single')

What is the process to claim the tax benefit for my wife?

I heard that even though she is in india i can claim the tax benefit. Please help me what should i do.. I don't have her tax id number as she never came to USA.

Thanks,
Guru.

No, you cannot file jointly with your wife. You must be married on 31 December 2007 in order to file as Married Filing Jointly for 2007.

You WILL be able to file jointly for 2008.
