I have a Maytag Neptune dryer and it doesn't dry well at all. I am used to putting big loads in it and I don't know if it's too big of loads or what but like 7-10 pairs of jeans and it takes at least 5 hours to dry them... if then. The sensor seems to work but shuts itself off before they are completely dry. I have to restart them on the timer and usually have to do it twice. I checked my outside vent and there is an OK stream of air coming out. I have to vent my dryer from the middle of my house about 20 feet to the outside along the inside of one of my walls. So it's quite a ways to the outside but I blow it out at least twice a year. Is this the problem? Also my dryer doesn't get real hot when it takes this long. But sometimes it gets hotter than heck on regular loads. I don't get it... thanks for any help.

Is it gas or electric? If it is electric, the heating element could be bad. The temp sensor(s) could be bad. Time to call the Maytag repair man. He has time.

Actually it's gas. Just seems to take forever to dry. It does get the job done but not in a timely manner.

Dues the air coming from the vent feel fairly hot? It truly sounds like there is a problem with the burner.

No it doesn't seem hot. Luke warm at best.

Definitely a burner or temp sensor problem. But, it could also be a problem with the control that sets the temperature for the particular type of drying ( Regular,Delicate,etc.)
Have you tried a different setting to see if there is a difference in the air temp coming out of the vent?
