I don't think Maria Clara killed herself. I mean, it wasn't mentioned in the book that I had. All that Basilio said and I think it's in Chapter 22 (or 23?) that Basilio told Simoun that he couldn't get Maria Clara from the convent since she was already dead. Beyond that, there was no hints of her committing suicide.

According to what I've read, maria clara killed herself because she thought that it's better to die than to live in a 'nightmare' (nightmare here means for her to live in the church as a nun.) I think,that's the reason why maria clara killed herself.

Mria Clara did not commit suicide. She died out of sickness.
