I have been dealing with my washing machine leaving "rusty' colored marks on my light colored clothing. I have an appliance repair person to look at my washer 2x's and he cleaned the machine and it was still leaving the same marks. So, even thought the washing machine was less than 7 years old, I replaced the machine with a new front loading machine. The marks are still coming on clothing. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be happening? The old washer did not always do that it just started happening about 2 years ago. The pipes are copper. The hot water tank is 3 years old. Nothing is in the catch basket of the washer that would suggest small pieces of rust or anything like that. Help!!

Do you flush your hot water heater regularly? Do you have city water or well water? Does it do it on cold only wash?

I have city water. No I don't flush the hot water tank. I did not know I was supposed to and I am not sure how to go about that.
