I have a top loading Kenmore Elite that is leaking. I took the cover off and loaded water for a small load and it began dripping at the left and right brackets where the springs attach. I thought for a white that it was the plastic basket but after cleaning it off and looking real hard for drips I see that the drips are coming from the transmission area below the tub. Is there a seal, gasket, etc that might be leaking or do the transmissions something leak?

Is the leak water or oil?

If it's water, check the drain hoses and clamps at the pump. Shouldn't be too hard to track down.

I have checked all clamps and hoses. I have some condensation on the little ixing hoses where the bleach dispenser comes in but all other hoses are dry and clamps tight and no leaks

On the inside of the tub at the bottom, there is a centerpost seal. The do on occasion leak. Check to see if the water is leakink from there down on the tranny

I think that might be it but how do I get the centerpost off so I can remove the tub?

This is for Whirlpohl which made your Kenmore. These step should be similsrTo remove the basket you will remove the tub ring and the agitator. To remove the agitator, you will remove the fabric softner dispenser and the barrier and seal (it you have one) the remove the 7/16 bolt. Next remove the fill line vacuum break by squeezing the plastic mounting tabs together and pulling outward and downwards. Now you will need to remove the spanner nut. On the outside of the basket near the top there is a fill hole which is plugged up. If it is leaking, this could be the cause of your leak. The basket will have to be replaced. Now remove the basket. You should now see the seal at the bottom

I have it down to the post with a metal (silver) nut? On top. Does not appear to spin off. Is there a "c " clip or something to remove. I am guesing that you lift off the post when the 'nut' is off

Are you speaking of the spanner nut? If so, there is a spanner nut wrench for it bu can be twisted off without one. Many times you may have to tap CAREFULLY on the underside of it to get it off. I say"carefully" tap as you can chip the basket

YOu may need to purchase a spanner nut wrench. Not expensive. Most are ccw to loosen
