We had a power loss (surge?) this am (chimputer was on w/surge protector), upon power restoration, I rebooted comp and neither of my dvd/cd drives are being found. When looking in the device mngr there is a little ! Next to the drives. I tried reinstalling the drivers but it did not help:confused. The drivers are installed but device is not found. Also the drive ID I.e. E: and F: are no longer present on the my computer page. Drives are listed in bios as well. I even tried unplugging and replugging....next will sacrifice a chicken to the Gods. Any ideas how to fix this broken relationship?

What version of Windows? Were the drive preinstalled or did you add them yourself?

Try removing the drives in Device Manager, then rebooting and let XP redetect them.
