live in a condo in phoenix. the heat pumps/air-conditioning units are on the roof. since i live on the second floor, i can hear the unit from the homeowner below every time it runs--worse in summer than in winter with temps up in the 100s daily. the owner's unit is at least 20 years old and the noise is unbearable. :mad:

so far, the association arranged for a service call to place small noise pads under the corners and a bonnet on something in the unit. nothing helps.

what else can i suggest to the homeowner or the association to subdue the noise--i am sure it can be moved and insulation placed under the unit to absorb the sound. and, suggesting a new one, of course, is out of the question. lucky if i get a response from the owner who, at this point, is difficult to work with.

You are probably stuck. A compressor blanket might also help but they are no cheap. You should have bought a first floor unit. LOL

Well, I hate the noise people make living above you in a condo. Did that.

However, we are finally going to address it: Move the air conditioner, screw in isolation pads on all four corners of the base which are engineered to isolate hard surfaces from each other to reduce structural noise transmission, or either lay down quiet board comprised of porous expanded polypropylene beads which are formed into a semi-rigid, water resistant panel. Then move the air conditioner/heat pump back upon its base. Either method will isolate any contact between the noise/vibration source and any other surface.

This message is for anyone dealing with structural noise transmission who chose to live on the second floor of a condominium iin order to escape the human noise of the second floor tenants to live on the first floor instead. LOL.
