I have a single stage heat pump. Electric.

I'm not sure what I have done wrong. I have the following wires:

yellow
white
red
green

According to the installation manual, I have installed them in the following locations:

yellow - Y
white - AUX
red - R
green - G

I have also added a jumper from E to AUX, which was also in the manual.

The heat will turn on and blow warm for about 3-5 minutes, then my zoning control panel will switch to cool and it will blow the air conditioner.

It has to be my wiring! Can anyone help?

Do you also have a electric furnace?

Zone control panel could be causing the problem also. The thermostat and zone control might be incompatable.

You don't have enough wires at thermost for a heat pump. Where is the reversing valve control wire, usually blue or orange. Are you sure this is a heat pump?

I'm positive it's a heat pump. There is also no orange going to the zone control panel.

But now I have a new problem! The A/C does not kick on anymore after I switched the Y wire from the Y terminal to the Y1 terminal.

But now the heat will not shut off! After the thermostat is satisfied, it just keeps running. The thermostat clicks off and does not say "heat" anymore, but the furnace only shuts off if I manually turn off the thermostat or remove it from the wall.

Here is my current wire configuration:

white = W/B
yellow = Y1
Red = Rh
Green = G

There is a jumper between Rh and Rc. It's a Hunter 44155C.

I said E and AUX before, but I think I was confused after reading so many answers on here. So disregard that.

Any ideas?

Is this a Carrier or Bryant sytem? Perhaps the infinity system?

Well, I spoke too soon. The A/C just kicked on after the heat ran for a few minutes.

So last night the heat would not shut off and today my A/C kicking on problem is back!!

It is a Carrier unit.

I had a technician come Thursday and he told me it is definitely the thermostat, but he couldn't fix it and told me it was the wrong thermostat for a heat pump. I looked it up and this thermostat will in fact work with a single stage heat pump, I just have it wired incorrectly.

I'm trying to avoid calling them again because they charge me $80 just to come out here.

Make your life simple.

First post you state it is a Honeywell thermostat. (Installed Honeywell RTH3100C)

Fourth post down you said it is a Hunter. (It's a Hunter 44155C)

We know you do not know what you are doing and we are trying to help you but it seems you have no idea what thermostat you have to start with.

This problem is probably way over your head and it is impossible to see exactly what you have because we are not there to see the system zone control, wiring,a programed settings.

My advice is to call back the professional and have them correct the problem before you burn up a zone control board, thermostat. or both.

They should come back under a warranty. I'm not sure your tech new what he was doing. Depending on the zone control you have that system may or may not work fine with the simplest of heat/cool thermostats. If you have what I think you have. Set up the thermostat for siple single stage heat/cool. (not H.P.) also remove the jumper from E to aux. Just W, Rh-Rc, Y and G. The zone control board should do the rest.

You know what, you're right - I did change thermostats. I got the new Honeywell after the technician told me the Hunter was not the right one for a single stage heat pump. That one didn't work either (hence my post last night), so I went back to the Hunter.

Sorry for the confusion, but I am going to stick with the Hunter and try to make it work.

I should point out that the Hunter worked just fine until we had a power surge a little over a week ago. I think I'll make a new post asking for info about the Hunter so it's in my title.
