AtlantaTaxExpert Jan 25, 2008, 11:09 AM MukatA Jan 27, 2008, 08:04 AM Child Tax Credit is not a refundable credit. Child Tax Credit will only refund your tax. If you only have SSD income, you won't have any tax. s_cianci Jan 27, 2008, 08:08 AM If you are supporting one or more minor children who are your legal dependents, yes. adr22367 Jan 27, 2008, 08:13 AM I do have one minor child, but no earned income. The only income I receive is child support and social security disability. I think to file taxes one does need an earned income. MukatA Jan 27, 2008, 08:36 AM No it is not necessary that you file only if you have earned income. A part of SSD income can be taxable. "If half of SSD income plus other income exceeds the base amount, then up to 85% of SSD income can be taxable." The base amount is around $26,000 for single and $33,000 for married filing jointly. AtlantaTaxExpert Jan 28, 2008, 08:54 AM Is the 1099 a Form 1099-R, 1009-MISC or perhaps 1099-SSA? We NEED to know this to provide proper guidance. Copyright ©2005-, Ask Me Help Desk
