Hi

I am on H1B since Dec 2006. I satisfy the substantial presence test and therefore shall be considered a resident alien for the tax purposes.

I am single but can I file my tax as head of household? Now I believe it will certainly give me little bit more savings. Is that right?

Also, a tax treaty between US and India will help me?

I would appreciate any replies. Thanks much!

In order to file Head of Household, you must provide a home for a qualifying child.

Since I assume that you have NO qualifying child, then the Head of Household filing status is NOT an option for you.

Since you are filing as a resident alien, you CANNOT apply the U.S.-India tax treaty.

Yes, for 2007 your will fie resident tax return with Single status. You will get standard deduction of $5,350 (if you don't itemize your deductions) and exemption of $3,400.
