I have a majestic Dierect vent gas fireplace. The pilot light is on. However when I try to turn it on most of the time it does not light on the first flip of the switch. It is actually starting to take longer to light each time I try to turn it on. When it does light it won't stay on. It may burn for 30 seconds or 30 minutes but then it just goes out. The pilot light stays on. Anybody know why this is happening?

Clean the thermopile. It is a probe in the pilot assembly. Check for loose wires at the gas valve. Check the wires at the thermostat if you are using one and then check the connections at the switch in the fireplace. You may have a weak gas valve.
