My Payne heat pump thermostat won't light up. It obviously has mal-functioned and the unit won't kick on. Any ideas ?

Check the circuit breaker for the unit. Could have blown a fuse on the circuit board.

If the AC is working fine than you may have a problem with the reversing valve
