First post...great site!

13 year old GTI Model 6000SGDVL (top vent direct vent) gas fireplace. Also has the Heat-N-Glo gading on the outside. Symptoms of problem:

1. Trouble with ignition when cold. After fireplace has been on for a while, it normally lights fine.

2. When cold, it doesn't want to ignite with either the thermostat or using the manual rocker switch technique. After a couple of times trying it (allowing bleed out when unsuccessful) it does ignite but with a bit of a whoosh. When it doesn't ignite, it doesn't matter if I try lighting using the thermostat or manually. Stat has been checked by the Fireplace shop and checks out.

3. Documentation says the thermopile needs minimum of 325 mv for proper ignition. It has that and more.

4. No pilot light issue whatsoever.

5. Sometimes (not alway) after burner does light and has been going for a few minutess, the burner just goes out completely on its own. Have to reignite it and then it normally stays on.

6. Sometimes (not always) when it initially lights, the front part of the burner is not completely lit. Maybe 20-30% of the burner stays unlit for a few moments and then eventually lights.

7. Fireplace has been cleaned top to bottom and log placement verified.

Does this problem sound like it could be caused by the gas valve itself as the stat and thermopile check out? Won't do the work myself, will hire a Tech for that. Just looking for ideas on what might be the cause. Thanks for your time......
