Hi, my question is why is my new fan with light attachment makes a humming noise when I turn off light but keep fan running. Type of switch that is on the wall is a dimer.

Remove the wall dimmer, install a regular switch. It could start a fire.

Hi, I actually have the same problem..

I have a Hunter fan which I added a light kit to this weekend. It is a 4-light kit from Hunter which I installed myself.

Since the light switch was on a separate outlet, I installed a dimmer too so I can dim the new lights. Problem is, it makes a faint hissing sound when I dim... the lower I dim, the higher the hiss. The hissing stops if I increase dim to the highest (full light)...

Any idea why this is? Should I not use a dimmer for this?

You should NEVER use a dimmer on a ceiling fan unless the lights have a separate hot wire. Again, it is a FIRE HAZARD.

I thought it was a separate hot wire because the light switch for the light fixture on the fan is a separate one from the one that turns on the fan. Does the fact that they are on separate wall switches mean there are separate hot wires?

Please confirm...

Yes, that is a separate hot wire. The sound may just be from the bulbs, if so that's OK.
