Hello!
So My period isn't suposed to be until monday, oct. 29. Well, I am going up north this weekend and our whole extended family goes on many hour long hikes, some lasting 12 hours (all day)
we're up in the woods, no bathrooms anywhere, and we always say to go before we leave, because otherwise you'll have to do the deed in the woods :)
Well, I'm leaving thursday and I can already feel it coming early!! My breasts hurt and I have cramps, I'd say I'll get it tomorrow or wednesday. I'm freaking out!! I cannot have a period on this vacation, I have a heavy flow and I change my tampons every 2-3 hours in the beginning, which is not possible with a group of guys on a 12 hour hike with no bathrooms! This is seriously an emergency, so here's my question: Is there anyway to prevent my period or make it lighter?? I know models dont' get theres because they don't eat enough, so if I don't eat much, will that stop it? I don't care what it takes anymore, even if it's unhealthy (please no lectures I'm usually a health nut) but this is major!! Can anyone help me or have any suggestions??? Thanks sooo much!!

Okay first of all, not eating will only stop your period if you starve yourself for a long time, and DO NOT do that. It's unhealthy and can cause permanent damage to your body. It would take several months for that to cause your period to stop anyways.

There really is no way to prevent your period, honestly, unless you manipulate your cycles with hormone birth control pills. I know how you feel though.. when I was in high school I had my period a week early right before prom, and my dress was snow white. What a scary night.

If your period is heavy, which mine used to be, I would suggest reducing salt and sugar intake, cutting out caffeine, and exercising a bit. It will cause your periods to be lighter. And to avoid the symptoms like breast soreness and cramps, a few tylenol will do the trick, or if you have bloating, using midol or a diuretic. :)

That prom story is scary!! I would have been scared too! :)
What do salt and sugar do exactly? I have been exercising to try to make it lighter. I heard ibuprofen makes it lighter too. I'm not sure though

It was still fun, just a very careful and very check-my back-filled night. Good memories from high school, yeah? XD

Anyways, sugars and especially salts help store fluid and they store fluid EVERYWHERE in your body, including in the blood that accumulates to make the make your menstrual flow, so reducing sugars, and SALTS especially, will cause you to not only have slightly lighter periods, but you also might drop a little weight, and that's something I kinda wanna do every once in a while. =P

I'm not sure about ibuprofen affecting your menstrual cycles, but you can probably google that?
