I have a ceiling fan which has no manufacturer name or any other information on it. The pullchain switch broke so I bought a new one and installed it. After I did this the fan would not work. The motor just hummed so I replaced the capacitor with the same type and information written on the old one. The fan still won't work! The light on the fan works. What can I do! I also would like to know where I can get a schematic for it. The pullhain switch did not ome with any wires on it. The new switch was the same as the old one. The switch is wired as follows: L on switch ( Black Wire ) to Black wire from down rod, 1 on the switch ( Blue Wire ) to Black enter pole on direction switch, 2 ( Red Wire ) on swith to Red from down rod, 3 ( Yellow wire ) on switch to yellow from down rod. Capacitor is 3 micro farad / 250V AC same as old one. It has 2 leads ( which is Red on the left side ( with writing on switch facing me ) going to Gray wire from down rod, the other lead ( Black ) to white wire to white wire on lights ( 3) and white wire to center pin on direction switch.

Was the new pul switch an excat match to the old one? One of your wires sounds crossed, did you match the colors or can you tell us how it was wired?

I can only presume you do not have the correct replacement pullchain. Many look the same but are not. See:

John, I'd rather skip the e-mails because it leaves other out of the loop. Ceilingfanrepair can probably help with finding the correct switch for your application.
