 I need help with this one. I have tried to lighten my hair color. Right now it is dark brown (natural color) and I want to lighten it. I have tried poroxide, it didnt work. I tired to lighten it using some kind of blond mix with the developers. That just broke my hair off really bad. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can do this? I really can not afford to go to the salon. Thank you for any advice given.

I know exactly what you mean...I have a friend with dark hair and if she puts a lighter color on it does NOT turn out the color on the box...with her a lot of red is brought out and it turns very very brassy...Assuming you are begining with unprocessed hair you could use a frost n tip product with a streaking cap. (look for one intentionally ment for dark hair it would have more lifting power)..and heavily streak your hair...leave the cap on (with the now bleached hair sticking out ) and then apply the hair color you want (lets say dark or medium blonde)on the processed hair... leave the new hair color on the required time...rince and remove the cap. How light do you want to go? If you wanted a little more depth you could do a couple foils with any left over frosting product.

Thank you, I dont want to go too light, just light enough to where I can take a picture and tell the diffrence. And yes I did try to streak my hair too and yes it turned orange. OMG I will never do that again. If you've ever seen Charmed in season 4. Alisa Milano's hair color was so pretty. I would love to have my hair that color. But I have no clue where to even start. Any suggestions?

I do not watch charmed (more of a greys anatomy girl lol) but I do know what she looks like and any streaks I would imagine would be a golden or honey toned? when you streaked your hair did you streak it directly or use a frosting product with cap?...I definately think you will need to strip out the dark color in order to get the shade you want. I would get the kit and a hair color labled 'dark blonde' I assume that your hair has a lot of red already (so I would avoid the golden shades) and if you do a ash shade it may look a bit odd with your natural highlights as well as the fact that ash can turn a greenish/grey on frosted hair (been there done that).
