You can install a heat pump in the attic if you have enough room, you need at least 30 inches of head clearance where the air handler would be installed and at least ten linear feet in length for the air handler and plenums as well as a 30"x30" crawl hole to service this unit as well as install it.
Considerations might be the mild temperature of a heat pump, the electrical requirements of the heat pump and additional aux. heat, a person could do himself but I might suggest you have someone help you who has experiance or you might do what you can do your self and hire a contractor to do what you can't do.
Don't know prices in your area and what size equipment.Good luck to you, Mike
