Genital warts are circumscribed, elevated skin lesions, usually seen on the external genitalia or near the anus.
Genital warts are caused by several types of human papillomaviruses (HPV). They are typically spread from person to person during intimate sexual contact.
They grow rapidaly in the presence of heavy perspiration, poor hygene, or pregnancy.
Signs and symptoms may be tenderness in the area of the wart.
In women the warts typically appear near the opening of the vagina.
The warts can vary in size from tiny to 3 to 4 inches in diameter.
