The problem I have is the air handler is working but the fan on the compresser isnt going on. Its a Goodman unit....2 ton I think ...the unit comes on...the fan does not turn...but the unit makes a buzzing sound
The unit is hot ...in the time it took me to turn it on and walk outside and look at it...it was hot enough I didnt want to touch it heat pumps will freeze up if you dont watch out...this one isnt freezing up.....they freeze and there is ice all over it,but not this one,its not frozen. How do I correct this? Do I need a new fan? Or a compressor?

It sounds as tho your outside fan is not operating, turn off the power at breaker and open the panel on the outside unit, look at the capacitor, does it have a ballooned top where the wires attach ? if so then this is an indication of a bad capacitor( a round cannister with wires on one end), it may also be bad if not ballooned, try spinning the fan , does it spin? if not then the motor is bad. You may want to have the capacitor checked before replacing the fan motor, this is a relatively inexpensive part compared to the motor. Also look for any burnt wires or disconnected wires, this could cause fan not to run as well. Good luck, Mike
