I am installing a LUX TX9600TS thermostat from a TRANE BAYSTAT239A. The thermostat has Aux/Emergency Heat. I have followed the directions to the best of my ability.

The LUX has optional batteries, I install them, and it turns on before I push it into the base. After pushing it into the base, the thermostat display goes blank. If I move the ON/AUTO switch to ON, the air turns on, but still no display.

Here is my current wiring:

G -> G
B -> told not to hook it in
O -> O
Y -> Y
RC -> R
RH -> Jumped to RC
W2 -> W
A -> n/a
W1 -> Jumped to Y
C -> B (from the B & O option, told B is common wire)

This is what I have. I also have a Brown Wire that was not in use in the old thermostat.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I want to just post this for humility, but maybe also to help someone else.

The RED wire, was not pushed as far in as possible. I pushed it in as far as it could go, and tightened it the best I could... it now works. Simple fix, but frustrating.

Did you turn off thr power to the furnace before you started the changeout?

If not you might have a fuse in the furnace circuit board blown, or you could have fried the transfoemer
,, check these 2 out and let us know, if there's no low voltage (24 to 28 volts) the tstat can`t work

Thanks wmproop. I made sure that the circuit breaker for the Heat was turned off anytime I messed around with the wiring. I had a few trips back and forth.

My biggest issue was the "B" "X2" and "W" wire. I did some Google searches to see if other had any similar issues. In the end, for my Old-to-New thermostat, The "B" is the Common Wire, the X2 was not used, and the "W" was put in the W2 slot - jumped with a wire to W1. ---

QUICK QUESTION for you: Our old thermostat (which was analog (?), not digital) was always kept at 65 degrees. It run a lot, and the temp in the house would be around 70 and comfortable. The Digital stat reads "70" and I have it set at 68.. it is very cold. So the question is, Is that normal? -- I was wondering if the Temp was wrong. . Or if the old thermostat was just.. "that bad".

Probably the old tstat was just that much out of calibration

Did you double check to make sure the blue wire (common) was connected in the furnace?

I did not check, I will when I get home. I asked around to people I work with (They made a switch to digital a few years ago). And they said they had similar issues, but that the digital tstat was just very accurate (+/- 1 degree).. .

We'll see how it wors out, but I will double check the blue wire.

It says in your original post that you have W1 jumped to Y... is that correct? The W1 and W2 turn on your heat (1 is stage 1, 2 is stage 2). The Y-wire turns on the outside condenser. You probably don't want to run the heat and air conditioning at the same time.

Thnaks for the reply dewey. -- I have a 2-Heat / 1-Cool. Heat Pump System with Aux and Emergency Heat. The wiring diagram shows "Y" as -"Heat Pump" jumped to "W-1." and "W" going to "W-2" - "Aux/Emerg. Heat".

I didn`t notice before,but the w1 shouldn`t be jumpered to y, as the man said this will cause heat and ac will run at the same time,, although this won`t have anything to do with system not running at all

WMProop & Dewey, can I ask you a favor (again): read the following and tell me if this makes sense to you and double check my wiring set up above. I do not want to get this wrong:


Do not connect wires to both O and B. Connect the reversing valve wire to O or B, just as the previous thermostat. Connect 24 VAC wire to RH and leave in the factory supplied jumper wire between RH and RC. Connect compressor wire to Y and fan wire to G. It is not necessary to wire the X, E or X2 terminal. Connect W or W2 to the W2 terminal and add a jumper wire from W1 to Y. If you have a C (common wire) connect it to the C terminal. Move dip switch #1 located on the back of the thermostat to the ON position. Set the GAS/ELECTRIC switch on the back of the thermostat to the ELECTRIC position. Once both of these changes have been made be sure to press the HW_RST button.

OK, looking at the diagramm I`m thinking with nothing from the furnace or heatpump going to W1,that jumper doesn`t matter,, you might want to look at the programing instructions do the programing before you push it into base, if you are wired exactly as diagram states, and the programs ( is it a programmable tstat?) are done,, are you sure you have 24v coming from the furnace, to the tstat. If all this checks out I`m thinking although its new, you could have a bad tstat. It happens
