On to your question. It is always better to get a third who isn't emotionally invested in either of you. Which means, no friends. Make sure you sit down and talk to all parties involved. Make sure they know what all is involved. Make sure that everyone is TESTED beforehand. Make that proper protection is used at all time.

Make sure that all parties are comfortable with this and make sure they're all honest.

This is usually a make or breaker for a relationship.

First and foremost, please understand that the vast majority of relationships do not last--as a matter of fact, they end horribly, with lasting precussions--after a threesome. Said that, I think one of the better options is to go for a female friend of yours (if you're the jealous type, don't involve your boyfriend's female friends). Are you going to feel akward after that? Not necessarily, if you choose the right friend. Being in bed with a stranger from craiglist might be a lot more awkward.

On a side note, a threesome doesn't have to be something overly dramatic or heartbreaking, unless you decide it too seriously.

It depends what type of girl you're looking for and what you would like to go on during the 3sum..
