    Depovera Shot
I was just wondering if anyone knew the chances of getting pregnant on the Depo. Shot. I've been on the shot for almost a year. My sister's boyfriend keeps saying I should use condoms, but I have a problem with that because I'm allergic to the spermicide and lube on the condoms and the ones with out that stuff cost more than the others. Any help?

Well, it is always possible to become pregnant if you are having sex, no matter what form of birth control, it seems that depo is a little harder to become pregnant on.

If you are not ready to have a child, allergic to spermicide and lubes, your only other option that I can think of right now would be the unlubricated condomes.

Depo is like 88% effective I think. I get it and it's a life saver. I hate my period and I don't have one at all when I get the shot. I use condoms sometimes and sometimes I don't. Personally I don't like then and there's only a 30% chance I use one. I haven't gotten pregnant on the shot so far. I think its almost as effective as the pill. There's actually something out now that's new called Mirena. They put it up inside of you though. Its suppose to be 99.9% effective. I think you have to at least have had 1 kid for them to put it in you. They might bend the rules though. I thought about getting it. It lasts for up to 5 years. Depo, like you know, last for 3 months. Here's the website: simplymirena.com. But anyway, they told me that Depo isn't 100% effective and I should still use a condom. Nothing is 100% effective so its always better to play it safe. I guess in your case you got to spend the extra money for the right condoms. But check out that site and good luck.

I was on Depo for 5 yrs. Be sure you are taking extra calcium as the Depo has been known to lead to osteoporosis. Now that I'm not taking it I find that I am less emotional, have more energy and sleep better. One of the girls I work with did get pregnant on the Depo, she had an ectopic pregnancy and had to have surgery. She ended up having her tubes tied and got off the Depo.
Be careful with it. Check out all the horror stories by Googling DepoProvera.

I gained like 15-20 pounds while on depo. It made me gain weight and I was told to take calcium too. It made me really mean for the first month. I was just in a horrible mood almost everyday. I don't know if it went away or I just got use to it.
