My daughter is 3 and there is no person listed as the father on her birth certificate. The man that is presumed the father left long b/f she was born and has never been present. I contacted child support services to have them help me locate him. they have done so and now we are going to do a paternity test. There is a possiblity that he is not the father, but the other man was a one night stand and I dont know or remember anything about him except his first name. I now have a boyfriend who I have been with for 2 yrs., and we are expecting another child. He is the only father that my daughter knows and would like to adopt her when we get married. What is the procedure if the alleged father turns out not to be the father afterall?

shanel08 -- You will have to identify the father before they will let someone who is not the father adopt your child.

Look at it from the father's viewpoint. He doesn't know he has a child and if he knew, he may want to help raise the child. Or he may sign papers giving up rights and then your b/f can adopt.

You need to find the father.
