how easy is it to adopt if the bio dad is unknown

i have a 4 yr old little girl and in 2009 will be marrying my partner i would liek him to adopt my daughter her biological father is unknown he isnt on her birth certificate and it was a drunken one night stand and more than alcohol had been taken i have no recolection of who it was the party i was at i never realy knew the ppl it was out fo town party etc and have no way of trying to even begin to find out who it was i was woundering how easy or hard this would make my partner adopting my child and how long the process would take and how i would go about it
