can i adopt child ive been raising for 6 years

i ve been raising my daughter for six years she has been part of my life since she was 3 i am not the biological father he came up from florida took her back to florida without mothers permission we had to go to court in florida for custody the mother and i have been married for allmosr 6 yrs. she won the custody battle the father has only called to talk with the child twice in the last 5 yrs. since we won full custody i want to adopt her we live in new york and would like for her to have my last name because she dont feel like shes a full part of the family my wife and our 4 yr. old son have my last name and she doesnt any ideas

You need to find an adoption attorney in your area. The bio-dad will need to relinquish parental rights in order for the adoption to take place.

If the bio father will sign off, it will be easy, if he will not, it will be hard, alot harder. So your first step will be an attorney and start filing motions for it.
