Quitting smoking

Time to share all of your tips and techniques. I am a 19 year addict and my husband is a 10 year addict. We both are quitting together, cold turkey. Any suggestions???

Check on hypnotism. 'round here the lung association puts it on once a month and it's only about $40 a head...and guaranteed for a year.

1. set a date
2. between now and then double your smoking. smoke even when you hate it.

Ok, I'll confess. This did work for me...but I was stupid and restarted smoking again nearly a year later. I won't go into that lame story of how stupid that was.

I can say this: When I did it, the first 3 days were hell, and the next 27 or so were fairly difficult. By about 30 days I honestly felt no cravings at all.

PS: I've been thinking about it ALOT for a couple of months. My "confession", above, just may very be the beginning of my taking my own advice and doing it again!! It is the true thorn in my side. A very wicked habit, isn't it?

Rick smokes I'm shocked
When I quit I just went cold turkey, which is fine if you can keep yourself busy, helps to take your mind off the cravings.

Right now my placebo is meow berry pop tarts, pocky chocolate covered biscuit sticks, dum dums and whatever else I can enjoy. Thank goodness I am one who cannot gain weight like most!! I actually am not really craving too badly. I have allocated myself 1 cig a day and I am on my last one. I find myself thinking about it less and less. I know it takes 24hrs for the nicotine to leave the body and for withdrawls to begin. The way I see it is I went a solid week in labor with my son and if I can cope with that I can get through this.

The crazy thing is when I smoke a few puffs I feel like I am only teasing myself. It isnt satisfying at all....hmmm. When my last puff is had, heaven help us all.

I do wish you the very best in quitting. Think of it as "just for today", and not think of it as "forever"......that's a very long time!
I had tried patches, eating Tootsie Roll Pops, chewing on toothpicks, matches, anything for the "mouth fixation" habit. A doctor told me (not to sound negative) that only 1 out of every 10 persons actually stay quit.
It is hard, but you can do it......just stick to it! There are also support groups for quitting in some local areas.

Be prepared for a LOT of tension in your household. It's hard enough when one spouse quits, but both of you quitting together will be 10 times as hard. Not trying to scare you, just prepare you. I tried the hypnosis route. didn't work, It turned out to be a vitiman simanar.. "yes you can quit if you buy these 300.00 worth of vitimans" I was mad to put it mildly. I did get a refund at the end of the " session" but it was like pulling teeth.
I tried the cold turkey route... almost caused a divorce because I was just so grumpy ALL the time. What worked for me was getting on welbutrin. I was able to cope with the withdrawl symptoms easily.
However.... I gained 20 pounds in less than 3 months and some majors stressors came up in my life, so sadly I started again. I smoked for over 20 years and quitting was the hardest thing I have ever done. On a positive note, my Husband has been smoke free for going on 6 years now. Hi guys I am on week 4 on champix,it has helped me more than any other method,i feel like i have tried it all.I am 42 and I have smoked for or since I was 12 or 13 .Im not sure what is the best way but so far champix is the one thing that ha worked for me. To let you guys know this is the first time I have talked to anyone like this (on forums) it is a great support it seems that when I felt like smoking and I was home I would jump on the lab.My husband is still smoking soooo you know its hard.

I started running on a treadmill to quit. I also used Nicorette. My goal was to be able to run for 30 minutes. At the beginning, I was so winded, I could run one minute, walk for 3, then run 1, and so on. I kept that up, walking as I needed until I built my lungs up to 30 minutes. I use Nicorette for stress and anger situations when I might be tempted to smoke. Have to use 2mg though...4 mg makes me want to smoke! After 72 hours, the physicall addiction has passed and it's all mental...keep that in your mind. You can do it!
