Fortunately there is a HUGE difference between "addiction" and drug dependency, which has two forms: physical and psycological. If you have been on this medication (it doesn't matter if it's legally prescribed to you or not-for the purposes of this question and answer session it's a moot point) for more than two weeks continuously you can perform this experiment to see if you are physically dependent. If you normally take it three times/day, hold off on the morning dose. If, after a few hours (remember-you took your last evening dose around 9pm the night before so add those hours to the hours you are holding out on the next day-try to shoot for no drugs in 12-14hrs) your nose begins to run, eyes water, and you break out in sweats-you are PHYSICALLY dependent. If you begin to think about the medicine uncontrollably, obsess over it, can"t wait to take it, but have none of the physical symptoms described above, you are PSYCOLOGICALLY dependent. You will need to see an addictions specialist either way-please don't wait until you become "strung out". Good Luck-I will remember you in prayer.
I have been on oxycotin sence my back surgery 2 months and 11 days ago.I take 20 mgs 3 times a day.Do you think im addicted?
My wife started out on the same dose for chronic fibromyalgia pain. I found out she was taking it 11 months after she started and shes totally addicted. She cannot live without it. From my experience< I'd seek an alternate medication.
I was hooked big time some years ago, after a seroiuis car wreck, I could not walk for over a year without a 4 legged walker, every step was serous pain. I was on several drugs for months and months, and did not ever want to stop. Was I hooked yep, was I a addict, no, large difference, since I was taking mine for a valid reason. The difference is what happens comming off and how we deal wih it, the addict will not come off but find ways to keep the drugs, the person who is hooked on medical drugs legally, suffers and stops.
That is an awful huge dose you have. Why are you taking 20 mg three times a day for? For everyone here though, what kind of back surgery was it. Any kind of surgery is series but back surgery more so. 2 months is not a long time to be on oxycontin but to be at that dose, sounds excessive in my opinion. Why do you think your addicted? How much of a recovery are you looking at. It is best to get your doctor to adjust the dose, which I personally think should be lower, but depends on if your taking any other medication with it or not.
Oxycontin addictions, well if your taking more then what the doc prescribes then I would say yes. Relying on them long term depends on your condition. 2 months is not really that long.
