hair folical test didn't "line up"

Asked Aug 20, 2012, 07:33 AM — 3 Answers
I was told by someone being tested that "my hair folical test didn't line up" so the test will have to be redone. What does "it didn't line up" mean?

I a nutshell some part of it didn't work as expected so all the results in effect didn't line up with the needed number of results...I.E. there X number of results needed to fill in the blanks..and for some reason they didn't get all of them for one reason or other.

In short something went wrong and they have to do it again.

Hair drug testing tests samples from proximal (closest to scalp) to distal (furthest). When the sample is obtained it must be placed with the proximal end closely aligned in the foil sample container that holds the sample in alignment just as it was taken from the scalp. The reason for this is that the lab cuts the sample at 1-1/2" and disposes of the remainder and it must be the root end of the hair that is tested.

Some collectors also obtain the sample from 3 areas on the scalp and then fail to properly align the ends in the container.

Most labs will reject a sample that isn't closely aligned end to end as there is no way of determining root end in cut hair otherwise.

At some point, post-collection, the sample was improperly prepared or mis-handled prior to test. It has nothing to do with you.
