Alcohol and brain damage

Hello,
I've abuse alcohol for about 10 years. From the first time I took a sip, I've always overindulged. Now, my reaction time is slower. I have a very hard time forming coherent sentences and I often cannot remember names, dates, numbers, even common words. I definitely feel like I have some kind of brain damage. Especially since I was in gifted programs and advanced classes since the age of 6. My mother was told that my IQ was above genius.
My question is..... If this brain damage is from alcohol, or drugs (I've done lots of those too) can it be reversed? Can I eat a lot of fish (omega 3) and someday be my former self?

It is always best to eat healthy and do things to help get your brain back on track but there is no guarantee. I take omega and vitamin B complex to help my memory. Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and buy organic juices. Avoid junk food and fast food.

Unfortunately brain cells do not regenerate. You have all the classic trappings of what they call "wet brain" from drinking. The best thing you can do is never drink or do drugs for the rest of your life. Hopefully your brain will start rewiring itself using different parts that are unused to help the parts that are irretrieveably damaged. This will happen over time but not overnight. This phenomenon happens when people have brain surgery and certain parts of their brain are taken out due to say tumors. The brain starts to rewire itself and the person then can go on to do the things that that portion of the brain controls.

You can't regenerate brain cells, but you can go to a 12 Step Program to get off all the chemicals that are destroying you, and make a nice life for yourself going forward. After a couple of years of sobriety and with the help of all your new friends in the Program, you will be a new person with realistic views about yourself and your abilities....and the skills to make life happen.

Go for it,

It might be permanent, or it might completely heal. They say that after 5 years of total abstinence from both alcohol and all drugs, the brain has healed to the best it can be.

So, get abstinent. Eat healthy and take Omega-3 and B-vitamins. Exercise and get enough sleep. Be patient with yourself. If after 5 years, you aren't back to being gifted, it's not going to happen. You will still be smarter than the average person anyway.

Have to spread the rep.
Omega and B vitamins as well as lots of fresh fruits and veggies.
Also some claim that phosphatidyserine is a mega memory source.
