Personal accounting for stock trades, dividends, splits

I'm looking for a source of information that shows the proper accounting set up for a person's financial activity. Would include bank checking accounts, money market accounts, stock brokerage accounts with stock and cash balances. All of these types, except the checking accounts, are in both taxable and non taxable (IRAs and 401Ks) status. A reference to a good text or pamphlet, etc., would be perfect. Thanks
