    Throbbing Kidneys
Hi.. my kidneys have been throbbing daily on and off for the past 6 months. All blood tests and urine tests come out normal. Last year I had an ultrasound for my gallbladder but they also did my kidneys and all was fine.. 2 months later, my gallbladder had to be taken out. I don't trust the MRI (with and without contract.. twice!) or the ultra-sound now.

I have lower back pain (not muscular). Some belly bloating on and off but not sure if that means anything here. Saw the Gyn.. all OK. But the throbbing continues. Pain is never sharp but it is definitely there throughout the day and night. Any ideas-could it be reduced kidney function? Thanks.. Cleo2222:confused:

If you are a diabetic, maybe type l, then I would think distressed kidney function. I know of a couple of instances where kidney problems were caused by abcesses, but these people were diabetic as well.

Here is another thought, although pretty far reaching but one you could discuss with your doctor and that is Gout.

    DESCRIPTION

Gout, a common joint disorder, is one of the most controllable metabolic disorders. Gout occurs when uric acid such as monosodium urate accumulates in the blood. This accumulation is due to the inability of kidneys to process this normal waste product

According to my urologist, unless your are experiencing a stone or other mechanical blockage, kidney usually don't hurt. You may have other issues arising that have yet do be discovered.
I've seen an instance where the Dr's thought they were treating chronic pancreatitis, only to have it turn out to be a cancerous growth. I don't want to be an alarmist, but I would seek additional Dr's opinions. Soon.
    Better safe than sorry.

Yes, you are right, cpt. it has to be a blockage to cause kidney pain, or so I have read. There many possibilities here and I think the poster could probably benefit from a visit to a Phrenologist (kidney specialist).

Had pyleonephritis in '88. Cause, they said, was having a baby at age 40-me, not the baby. Had bilateral stones requiring 6 lithotripsies, 3 on ea kidney. This at a series of hospitals in philly. Have had infections since, and recently while swimming in a river, i thought the throbbing would bring me down. Obviously, it didn't. Have stunted kidney growth in both kidneys, am married and am 64. Throbbing more often than not now. Live in arkansas. When in philly, dr. charles at arlington was my md, but changed to dr. grasso at jefferson. Nothing but pain! Then a fall down a flight of stairs, several frx of spine, break of rt forearm requiring 2 pins, one of which became infected as the md wouldn't give me an rx for the itching, burning. Staph infection left "LOVELY" scar.just what a lass wants for the remainder of life. Actually, happy that i came out of it! Know any good mds in fort smith , ar.? (479) 783-4408 constance durkin, married 30 years. 1912 no 13th st, fort smith, ar. 72904. Thanks for lending an eye or two.

Throbbing sensation around the kidney area lower back [ 3 Answers ]

Hi Guys, does anyone know what may be the cure or cause or what is my situation. I have a throbbing sensation in my lower back region. It is not severe but it is a feeling like blood is pumping the same as my heartbeat into the area. More prominent at night. Thank You...
