Jeff, much more information is needed.

For example, is this feeder going to be copper or aluminum?
Are you going above or below groound?
Usually, but certainly not always, the power company runs the service feed to the residence, have they told you that you have to have the work done?

    Jeff,

Is your meter designed to feed two locations? There can be only one service entrance for a residence. A 400 amp meter will be able to provide two feeders.

However, if you have a 200 amp or below panelboard and meter you would need to pull your feeder off your main panelboard and not the meter.

That would mean that you would require a four wire feeder.

Are yo going to a stand-alone workshop or garage?

Is this a service to the house?
Or a sub-feed to another building? If this is the case you cannot just run from the meter. You need to come from the panel off a breaker.

I'm sorry. I have no idea what this means, or how it answers my question.

You really need to explain with some more detail what it is you are wanting to do.

Like I said, if you are thinking you can come off an existing meter to feed another building you cannot. You need to come from a panel.
