Mr. Bill Carson - looks like you're not the only one who feels like it came from an older time,(see first link) but I think that was the intention of the band (see quote from good old wikipedia...which I know you said you had already read...) Also interesting, it seems that the song was co-written by Rick Nowles, who wrote many songs in the 80's...maybe you recognize his writing style in the New Radicals song with a song you remember from when you were younger?
